Choosing the right music for your wedding can make all the difference in creating memorable moments. As a musician who has performed at hundreds of weddings, I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t. Here are my top tips to help you make the music on your big day truly unique and unforgettable.

Have a Wet Weather Plan

If your ceremony is outdoors, having a backup plan is crucial. PA systems and other music gear are not weatherproof and won’t work if it’s raining. Always ensure there’s a dry, covered area for your musician so the ceremony can go smoothly no matter the weather.

Battery-Powered PA for Remote Locations

Many weddings take place in remote venues like vineyards, cliffs, beaches, or gardens where power may not be nearby. Ask your musician if they can bring a battery-powered PA system. This ensures your ceremony music plays perfectly, even when mains power isn’t available.

Customize Your Music

Personalising your music adds a truly special touch. I recommend creating Spotify playlists for different parts of the day:

  • Background music playlist – For breaks between live sets, so your favourite songs keep the atmosphere flowing.

  • DJ set playlist – Acts as a reference for the evening’s DJ portion of the night.

  • Special moments playlist – For key moments like the bridal party entrance, cake cutting, first dance, bouquet toss, or the final song.

Make It Unique

I love helping couples do something out of the ordinary. Some of my favourite past moments include:

  • Performing a surprise song ive written for the groom on behalf of the bride

  • Couples arranging to have a Guests performing live with my guitar and microphone

  • Accompanying the bride or groom singing a song for their partner

  • Ive even done a duet with a bride who was a professional singer

Every wedding is different, and adding a personal, creative touch makes it truly unforgettable.

Work With Your Musician

Don’t be afraid to share your vision with your musician. If there’s something special you want to include, from unique songs to surprise performances, a good musician will adapt to make your day magical.
